Instacart Acquires Colombia-Based Grocery Technology Firm Instaleap to Accelerate Global Expansion
On Tuesday, leading North American online grocery platform Instacart announced it has acquired Colombia-headquartered grocery technology company Instaleap. No financial details of the transaction have been disclosed to the public.
Founded in 2019, Instaleap runs a global order fulfillment solutions platform built to help retail brands streamline their digital operations and scale their online business. The firm currently serves clients across nearly 30 markets spanning Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East.
While Instacart is most widely recognized for its consumer-facing grocery delivery services, the company has poured heavy investment into retail technology and fulfillment infrastructure over the past several years. Its enterprise commerce tool, Storefront Pro, powers end-to-end e-commerce operations for more than 380 grocery chains, including major brands like Aldi, Costco, Publix, and Sprouts. Additionally, Instacart's advertising product Carrot Ads enables over 310 retail partners to build and scale their online and in-store advertising revenue streams.
Since Instacart's core delivery service is currently only available in North America, the acquisition of Instaleap will allow the company to expand its footprint into international markets without the high cost and lead time of building a new delivery network from scratch in those regions.
Per the joint announcement, Instaleap will operate as a fully owned subsidiary of Instacart during the initial integration phase. Over time, Instacart plans to roll out more of its proprietary enterprise technology solutions to Instaleap's existing global partner base.
“We see a significant, meaningful opportunity to expand internationally through an enterprise-led strategy that empowers retailers across the globe to meet the evolving omnichannel needs of their customers,” said Ryan Hamburger, Chief Commercial Officer at Instacart, in a statement. “With the addition of Instaleap’s technology, deep international expertise, and established retail relationships, we can accelerate our international expansion and better serve retailers and consumers around the world.”
“We’ve built our platform with a deep focus on the unique needs of grocery retailers across diverse international markets,” said Instaleap co-founder and CEO Antonio dos Santos Nunes in a press release. “Joining Instacart enables us to scale our impact with the support of a trusted partner that shares our core commitment to driving retailer success.”
